If you are looking to purchase a new set of sheets, you may find it difficult to decide between the Egyptian cotton or the bamboo. This is a hard choice when it comes right down to it. It is a very personal choice as to what sheets are best for you.  Both of these faberics have wonderful qualities associated with them. Bamboo is much less well known then Egyptian cotton.

If you are looking at a set of sheets and they have an extremely high thread count, you are probably looking at Egyptian cotton. Egyptian cotton sheets can have a very long life if taken care of. The high thread count of Egyptian cotton is part of what gives it such a luxurious feel. You may not immediately knotice now soft these cotton sheets can feel.  As you wash them and use them you will feel how soft they can be. Nothing beat crawling into a bed that is covered with a soft material. Cotton breathes well so you won’t feel like you are smoldering during the night. Egyptian cotton sheets, though less expensive, aren’t lacking in quality.

Bamboo is grown in an eco friendly mannor.  There is no pesticide usage, and it grows incredibly fast therefore sustainable. If you are “going green” bamboo sheets may be just what you are looking for. Bamboo is just as soft, if not softer, then Egyptian cotton.  When compaired to each other bamboo has a considerably lower thread count. Bamboo is hypoallergenic and antibacterial.  This is a set of unique qualities for sure. Bamboo is also more insulating then cotton is.  That means that it is able to keep you warm in the winter and not too hot in the summer.

Either of these fabrics will feel great to you. Bamboo is more expensive then Egyptian cotton but bamboo is also a renewable resource. So it is ultimately up to you as to what will fit your needs the best. If you don’t mind the extra cost, the bamboo sheets may shock you.

Skiing can be a great way to spend a day (or a week!) during the winter, as it will allow you to workout, get fresh air, and relax, all at the same time (and of course, all these things will combine to help you remain healthy and stay in great shape!), but one mistake a lot of people – especially those people who do not ski often – make is that they hit the slopes without all the equipment they need, and this causes their ski adventure to be a great big failure instead of a great big bundle of fun.

In order to experience a successful ski adventure, the first thing you will need is some base layers that will wick sweat away from your body, as this will be necssary for keeping you dry and warm; a lot of people simply go with long underwear in order to stay warm when skiing, but realize that long underwear will have a tendency to absorb your sweat, which can leave you feeling cold and uncomfortable throughout the day, and for this reason it is often worth your time and money to find a base layer that will instead pull the sweat away from your body!

On top of making sure your skin stays dry with good base layers, you will want to make sure the layers away from your body keep your base layers dry; make sure you have pants that prevent water from making its way to your legs, and make sure your coat is both water-resistant and wind-resistant so that you will stay warm as the day goes on.

And you will be exerting a lot of energy when you are on the slopes, which means that your body will be hoping for you to replenish it with some water and some food throughout the day; a daypack is a great asset to a ski day, as you will be able to carry water and food in this daypack (as well as extra gloves, scarves, and hats, in case the ones you start out with begin to get really wet), and will be able to keep up your energy throughout the day.

Make sure you hit the slopes with all the proper equipment, and your day on the slopes will be that much more likely to be a great success!

It can sometimes be more difficult to find the time and the opportunity for all of you and all of your old buddies to get together, catch up, and hang out like guys as all of you get older and start families of your own, and for this reason it is beneficial – if you hope to maintain those friendships you have built over the years – that you come up with a way to regularly get together, and one of the best ways to have a regular hangout night is to host a poker night with your pals.

In order to have a successful poker night with your pals, making sure you have the right equipment is the first thing you will need to do: you will not need to have an actual poker table (although it would be nice to have one!), but you should make sure you have a table that will seat everyone who is coming, and that you have enough poker chips for all the people; also, you should make sure you have two or three good decks of cards (that have all the cards in them!) before you get started.

You and your buddies will be able to play poker together when you have the right equipment, but including a few extras to ensure that the poker night is a success is also a good idea: when you provide food and drinks for everyone, it will allow everyone to feel more comfortable and have more fun; on the first poker night you host, you should provide these things yourself, but as time progresses – and as your poker night becomes a regular occurrence – you can rotate who provides the food and drinks each week.

And before everyone shows up at your house, you should know what the plan is: know what games you will play, what the buy-in will be, whether extra buy-ins will be allowed, what the blinds will be, how the blinds will progress, and so on. Knowing these things before everyone shows up – and simply letting everyone know how the night is going to be – will be better than to try and figure things out as a group once everyone gets there; and with these tips in mind, you will be all set to have a perfect poker night!

If you are enjoying the culinary arts in your home kitchen you may be ready to upgrade your knives to something a little more professional then your cheap knife set you got in college. Your choices in knives can very from a set purchased in a big box store to a single knife found in a high end culinary store. Things are further complicated when every company claims their knives are the sharpest.

I would recommend starting off with just a decent knife set. A midpriced set is a great way to upgrade all of your knives and you don’t have to spend hundreds upon hundreds of dollars. Chicago Cutlery puts out some very nice sets that fit this bill for example. This easy to find brand has a nice quality to them. After you get a basic set so you have steak knives, paring knives, and utility knives, you can think about what extra knives you wish to have.

When you purchase individual knives, you will be paying more for them, but they are well worth it. There is nothing like preparing food with a high quality knife. You should consider what you want your knife to be made of. First, high carbon stainless steel keeps an edge well and doesn’t stain. Second, titanium, which is light and flexible but, keeps a nice edge.  When you think of this knife think filet knife. Last and a bit less common is a ceramic. Ceramic knives are sharp and don’t need sharpening at all over their lifetime.  The downfall to these knives are that they are very fragile.

Personally the first individual knife I would purchase is a chiefs knife.  I would consider one that had a full tang. The metal extention that goes from the blade into the handle is called the tang. A full tang adds weight to the handle side of the blade and helps to balance the knife. A forged knife is by far the most expensive but it is also the best.  You may also see stamped knives but they are not as high of a quality.  Forged knives are heavier knives and can be sharped for much longer then stamped knives. Wood handles take a lot of extra care to keep them conditioned. I prefer stainless steel or composition handles.

So what can you do to keep your new super sharp knives sharp? Never put your knives in a dishwasher. This can cause knicks to the blade and will ultimately dull the blade much faster. Second, cut on a natural cutting board such as wood when you are cutting vegetables and synthetic for meats. Never cut on glass or marble cutting boards these will destroy your knife.
