When you sleep, your body and mind work in a 90-minute cycle; you have probably heard the term “REM sleep” – and maybe you even know that this means “rapid eye movement” – but this does not necessarily mean you know how to use this information to your advantage. For most people, the first 65 minutes of your sleep cycle are taken up with normal, non-REM sleep, followed by about 20 minutes of REM sleep – and it is during this time that you dream, and that your body and mind are both able to get their deepest rest. Of course, this leaves five remaining minutes before it totals 90 minutes, and these five minutes constitute the time during which your body and mind are in limbo – the time during which they are gearing up for the next set of sleep, and during which you are most likely to wake up to small noises or disturbances. When you are woken up (or when you wake up) while in this “in-between” phase, you will feel a whole lot more rested and far more ready to start your day, which means that the best way to ensure that you feel rested when you get up in the morning is to time your “wake up” so that it comes at the end of one of these 90 minute cycles. In order to feel more awake, don’t just add more sleep; try to schedule your sleep so that you will wake up during this limbo period, and you will feel much more ready to get out of bed and start your day.Finding Low-Fat Alternatives To Milk
In addition to all the great stuff milk has in it – stuff that genuinely helps the human body – milk also has a lot of fat, which is not good for the human body! Some people choose to avoid milk altogether, replacing the vitamins, calcium, and protein found in milk with other foods that offer these benefits. But if you happen to particularly enjoy milk, there is no need to cut it out; you can still enjoy milk, and skip out on the fat!
Of course, the most obvious alternative when it comes to “low-fat” is to switch to skim milk, which allows you to continue drinking milk! You will find none of the fat in skim milk that you find in 1%, 2%, and whole milk, but you will still be able to get all the good stuff found in milk. Some people say they do not like the way skim milk tastes – saying it is “too watery” – but if you try skim milk, give it some time before rendering an opinion. After giving skim milk some time, many people actually find that they even prefer the taste of it over whole milk! You can also go with soy milk or rice milk as a replacement, switching away from real milk altogether. Neither of these taste quite the same as real milk, but they are actually even better for you, and some people find that they actually prefer the taste also! And even if you do not care to use soy milk or rice milk in your cereal, you can still use them when you cook or bake something that calls for milk in the recipe. And of course, the most “low-fat” alternative you could possibly find to milk is to switch away from it completely! Try eating cereal plain if you usually eat it with milk; in fact, you can even try cereal with apple juice or orange juice! And if you usually put milk in your coffee, consider acclimating yourself to the taste of coffee without anything in it at all. Even though there is nothing terrible about drinking milk – even whole milk – when it comes right down to it, it is still in your best interests to find the most low-fat alternative possible!Getting Enough Water Throughout The Day
We all know that our bodies cannot survive without water, and that water is the most important element for us to give our bodies on a regular basis, and despite this knowledge, many of us do not give our bodies nearly as much water each day as we are supposed to. Every day, you are supposed to make sure you are drinking at least one gallon of water, which sounds like a lot (and which feels like a lot at first!), but if you come up with a system to make sure you are getting enough water, it will become much easier.
If you spend most of your day at home, a great way to make sure you get enough water is to set eight empty cups on the counter at the start of the day, and as you finish drinking a full glass from each cup, you can turn that cup over and move onto the next cup. Also, check the glasses in your house, as there is a good chance the glasses you use are 12 ounce glasses (instead of 8 ounce glasses), which would mean you only need six cups (and that you will actually get just over a gallon this way!). Some people also find that it is helpful to fill up a one gallon pitcher with water at the start of the day, and to make sure they fill their drinking cup only from this pitcher; of course, this approach is another one that works primarily for those who are home most of the day. If you are not home for most of the day, an excellent approach is to get a water bottle that holds about a half gallon of water, and to keep it with your throughout the day, making sure you go through the bottle twice before the day ends (and in fact, many people who are home during the day find this method helpful as well). At first, it might feel like you are drinking a lot more water than you actually need, but in time you will start to feel more comfortable drinking this much water – and more importantly, this will keep your body healthy and effective!
